From #001 (Nov 2020) to #012 of The Stew, every month we published a magazine. Over our first year, we racked up over 650+ pages of content. Long-form features, loose gonzo reports, poetry, short stories, quick reviews, and cooked artwork has defined a year of earnestly trying to build a platform for covering music and the culture around it in a unique and engaging way.
The following compilation issue condenses the sprawling first year of the mag into a tight 80+ pages and reimagines all the old spreads with a far fresher look/layout.
It features writing on: The Flamingo Jones, Asha Jefferies, VOIID, Gordon Koang, Pale Horsey, Mdou Moctar, Karl S Williams, DZ Deathrays and more. There’s longer form gonzo writing about going to Yonder 2021, watching a King Gizz/Tropical Fuck Storm show, essay about Aretha Franklin, and a couple of bits of stoned creative writing pulled DEEP from the archives.
This comprehensive issue is a snapshot of a year living in Meanjin (Brisbane), watching shows, listening to music and trying to figure out how to make this magazine better.
Hopefully you get to see how far we’ve come, and where we are goin’…
